The reason I am asking this question is because I wanna know if my GPA which is about a 2.3 right now will still get me into a program. I live in PA and there aren't that many programs for the degree I want to go to. I am a Spanish major about a semester away from graduating. Last year I was going through some issues related to work and I took my 2.6 GPA down to about 2.2 and now I'm trying to make up for it I now have about 5 or 6 F's on my transcript. I never took my GPA to seriously until I realized what I wanted to do which is ESL and that they would require more from me than I required from myself. Do I have a chance at salvaging my unborn career? Oh and by the way I just want to get into a program. I care more about cost than I do reputation because I cant afford to play the name brand school game with 30,000 dollars in undergraduate loans.

the “name brand schools” are more likely to fully fund their grad students than the smaller, less well-known schools. that said, i think your GPA is too low to merit consideration at the top schools anyway.

are you looking for a masters degree or a PhD or an education degree?

your best bet is to go to a public school non-ranked university…

to StrangeLight:
I am trying to get a masters of education in TESOL/ESL.
to ResurgamBell"
I am currently looking at a public school. Indiana University of Pennsylvania and West Chester University of Pennsylvania.
I wish I could go out of state for more choices but then money comes into play.

how are your other stats. so far, i don’t see anything that indicates your passion for esl. did you have work experience during school related to esl? did you start doing better later in your college career?

Why don’t you take the GREs and if they are also low you may want to reconsider grad school. A low gpa and low GRE scores will give you an indication if you are competitive for admittance into a PA grad school.

Biopsychosocial

You’re right . I actually have done somethings that are related to ESL. I did a informal conversation partner program at my school for 3 semesters. I also did a conversation group with my school for a summer semester. But from now until I graduate I’m going to do more to boost my credentials. Im going to volunteer with the pittsburgh literacy council until I graduate. That should help add to my credentials.
