Would getting a masters in economics from a cal state bode well for applying to a masters in financial engineering program, specifically at UCLA?

Do you mean would it help you get in? Probably, but what would help more is taking strong quantitative classes and working in finance or a finance-related job for a few years. I’ve never quite seen the point of getting a master’s just to get another master’s, especially if there is substantial overlap in the two programs.

Thanks for the reply. I know there is some overlap but a masters in financial engineering has more value to it than an a masters in Econ. Especially for what I want to go into which is derivative trading or equity research.
