By the time I join my (grad) college i wud have abt a year and 8 months work exp in a software MNC in India. I need some help with the selection of my colleges.

My current list is,
1. Univ of Southern Calif.
2. Univ of Texas, Austin
3. North Carolina State Univ.
4. Univ of Utah
5. Univ of Colorado, Boulder
6.Univ of Arizona
7. Arizona State Univ
8. Iowa State Univ

Any suggestion/changes to this wud be welcome.

i would say you ranked it about right on your own list.

I know that USC's and UT:A's program are top notch.

USC actually just finished a new monster of an engineering building called tutor hall this spring which is pretty crazy, there's plasma screens everywhere. I was originally an undergrad at USC's comp sci program but i switched out (i did it before i got there too, just a change of heart at the time).

one thing to consider is that USC probably has a little more international prestige over UT, it attracts a little more overseas attention at times, i bet you'll be set either way though.

First, I am sorry the "Title" of my prev message was a bit misleading.

Two, I have not got admits from any of these univ, I am jus in the process of selecting the Univ I wanna apply.

I have started my univ short-listing process a bit early, as I am not sure when I mite get overloaded with my work that I won't get any time for that.

Grad school is a lot different from undergrad in terms of applications. We just went through this ourselves, with a different major. (So that means I don't know all that much about the computer science field...) What we learned: Often, admission to these schools has a lot to do with connections. If the people writing your recommendations went to one of these schools, still has contacts there, and thinks highly of you (that is, willing to write you a stellar rec.), then I think that should be your first choice.

Also, each department might have a different emphasis. Read their websites carefully to see where their research focus is, where their professors' expertise is, where they're throwing their money. Your application needs to fit their focus.
