Grad student considering IU - what's it like?

Hey Hoosiers,

I'm a graduate student accepted to HPER's Department of Recreation, Park and Tourism Studies, and IU is very definitely on my shortlist of programs under consideration.

I'd love to hear from current IU students - how do you like your experience at IU? What's the community like? Good places to live, eat, shop?

Thanks!

I really like IU. It has a very forward-thinking atmosphere, there are billions of opportunities, the professors I’ve encountered are as a whole excited for my future and willing to write recommendations or do anything to help. It’s a beautiful campus, tons of ethnic restaurants and small businesses in downtown. The downtown area is just really cool place in general, if a little small. Housing can be found in every direction from campus, many graduate students choose the south side of campus because it’s the quietest. In general, the north side of the campus is really into athletics and partying, and the south side is more into music, theater, etc. Very diverse set of interests, but everyone’s pretty social and genial.
There’s a large Jewish population, fairly large Asian population. It is diverse, but still largely composed of white, middle class students, and our culture reflects that.
If you have any more specific questions let me know.

Great answer there ^
