Grad student Financial Aid: Help

Hi everyone,

I know someone very dear to me that was accepted to a graduate student program at Georgetown. She was hoping to receive a very generous scholarship from the military; however, she was not accepted for the award. As you can imagine she is devastated. Her estimated cost for attending GT is around 132K for two years. She received two different awards from GT in the form of loans: Federal Direct Plus Loan and the Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan. However, these loans carry a fairly large interest rate. She wouldn't be able to pay this off for a long time or maybe even never. She has at the point where she wants to defer her enrollment and apply for another school, which is disappointing to her because this was her dream school. We are currently looking into fellowships but most of them want students with a degree already or students who have already accrued grades (She was admitted for the Fall 12, so she does not have a academic record yet).

I'm trying to find anyway possible for her to get funding. How much are her fellow grad colleagues receiving in loans? Is her aid package similar to other grad students?

Any advice would be so very much appreciated.

Thank you

Send me a PM, and I’ll try to help as best I can.
