grade deflation?

Does anyone know people who got into top notch schools even with average GPA because of grade deflation?

Because some schools have ridiculously high grade inflation and a lot of kids are able to get high grades without trying so hard.. whereas in some very competitive schools (private OR public) only a few people get A's no matter how much effort a student puts into the class.

And also, people on CC say that colleges "recalculate" our GPA's. I don't quite understand what this means. Somebody please explain?

Most colleges have a formula for calculation weighted GPAs. They usually take only core classes and weight them according to their own method. This makes sense because weighting systems are so variable.

i doubt admission officers recalculate GPA for every single applicant. do you realize how long that would take?

Not as long as you think – and yes, admissions offices do. Not necessarily officers – that’s what student workers are for. ;)
