Grade dip

Hey,

I have a quick question. My grades dropped and I got 4 B’s in my first semester of sophomore year in high school.
My grades in middle school for my high school courses were all A’s and my grades freshmen year were all A’s first semester and 1 B in second semester. My grades were 2A’s and 4 B’s for sophomore year and currently I have all A’s with 93+ in every class. My projected Sat score is 1520-1550 and ACT 35-36. I will be taking 12-14 APs by the time I finish high school. The 4 B’s happened becuase of various factors (I normally dont study for anything and get all A’s, 10th grade caught me off gaurd) and I let my grades slip. My ECs are quite strong, with cross country and a nonprofit/for-profit, etc.

Are my chances of getting into a 15%-25% acceptance rate competitive school (Example: Georgia Tech/ Cornell, etc) destroyed? Even if I bring my grades up to all A’s for the rest of my high school career?

thanks

  1. See how things go next year. It is a waste of time to ask people to make any assessment based on projected junior year grades, projected SAT/ACT scores.

  2. The schools you mentioned have extremely low acceptance rates and must be considered to be reaches for any unhooked applicant.

  3. When the time comes (mid-late junior year) honestly asses your academic stats (including GPA, standardized tests, course rigor) as well as your financial needs and develop an application list that includes a wide range of reach, match, and safety schools that appear affordable (you will have to run a net price calculator for each school you consider) and that you would be excited to attend. Instead of focusing on the hyper-competitive colleges you should expand your horizons and recognize that there are many wonderful schools out there where you can have a great 4 year experience and get where you want to go in life.
