Up untill this point (second semester of my junior year) I be 5 B’s on my transcript. 2 in eighth grade for algebra 1 ( I didn’t know they would be counted on my highschool transcript so I didn’t care about my grade), one in freshman year for honors bio, and two in first semester of junior year (AP physics C and AP calc BC). I am taking 6 ap classes right now and took one in sophmore year (APUSH with an A and a 5)I also plan to take at least 4 in senior year. If I get all A’s, a 35 and 5’s on my exams how are my chances at Dartmouth or any top college. I have secondary legacy since my sister went there. My ecs are pretty good but I’m just disappointed that I couldn’t do better in my classes. Especially AP calc since I was 5 points off of an A-.
Eighth grade shouldn’t matter. I know they show on my D’s transcript as she was taking typical HS classes, but they are not factored into her HS GPA. Are yours? If not, colleges certainly won’t care. And if they are, colleges likely will recalculate your GPA without them.
After that, three B’s are worse than two and better than four. Schools will look at your transcript in total, as just part of your overall application. There will probably be students with a 4.0 but less rigorous schedule and weaker ECs. There may be someone with four B’s that is an IMO Gold medalist.
In no way is it disqualifying. There’s no way to guess your chances just based on that data and projections of others. With what you’ve provided, you’ll be in the mix for consideration, where schools will review your detailed ECs, recommendations, essays, etc.
Given acceptance rates of less than 10%, that’s probably the best estimate, as it is for all students. But also realize all students that were admitted also faced the same global probability.
