Grade my ACT essay

It would be nice if people could grade my essay, thanks!

Prompt:
In some high schools, students are required to complete a certain number of community service hours prior to graduation. Some people think community service is a good requirement because they think students will benefit from this experience. Other people think schools should not require community service because students will resent the requirement and, as a result, will not benefit from the experience. In your opinion, should high schools require students to complete a certain number of hours of community service?

Essay:
Helping the community is an effective way of helping the body and mind. By requiring students to complete a certain number of community service hours, the students can reap many benefits. The experience can humble them and make them realize the worth of helping others. In addition, the hours spent would not only help the students, but also the community. Another major reason is that the requirement could make the students more sociable and in-tune with their communities.

For some students, avarice is in their future as all they want is to make money. Misguided by famous people on T.V. with expensive Ferrari sportscars and ornate Gucci purses, those students think that that is what they want. However, if they helped their communities, such as by volunteering in the local library or helping set up for the county fair, they could be humbled. They would be able to see the smiles on young children's faces as they read their favorite books, or the great reverie of everyone during the fair's pie-eating contest. Having that understanding of life is important for everyone.

Some could even say that the community benefits more than the students. Instead of having to pay people, many communities can be beautified by the helping hands of their own residents. The volunteering students could pick up trash in the local parks, or walk to raise money for cancer research, all of which would benefit the community.

Furthermore, students would become more in-tune and sociable with their communities. Without the requirement, some students would just spend their time online on social networks, such as Facebook, or list in online role-playing games such as World of Warcraft. Some teens spend hours on such things, and they don't even explore the towns they've lived in for years. There have been stories of some World of Warcraft players who wouldn't leave their house for days, barely ate, and only got up to go to the bathroom.

Some people, students included may think that requiring community service hours would only make the students resent it. However, even if they resent it at first, after trying it, they will feel a sense of accomplishment at having helped people. And for those few students who still resent it, at least the community will have benefitted from their hard work.

Requiring students to partake in community service is a great boon in different ways. Students will learn to appreciate what they are doing, communities will be improved in the process, and students would become more outgoing and amiable. Although the idea may be resented at first, trying it out would show how great it would be.
