Topic: Do people need to know the source of any information before they use it?

Undoubtedly, the primary factor that defines a piece of information as worthy is its validity. Information that is either inaccurate or fabricated often invites false impressions of certain ideas in the most delusive ways. Thus, it is irrefutably vital for people to be aware of the source of any information they come across in life. Both of the following evidence demonstrates how correctly perceiving the source of information can elicit a big difference.
The first case where ignorance of the source of information proved damaging was in a Chinese singer Y.D’s suicidal death, an extreme response to online witch hunts provoked by fallacious gossips. Before his downfall, Y.D was a popular singer and songwriter, just earning fame from his recent debut. Unfortunately, his rapid rise in popularity had aroused jealousy from his acquaintances, who started alleging suspicions of Y.D’s past that he had a record of raping a child before his coming out, despite the lack of any proof. Endless denunciations and distrust pushed Y.D from the ledge of his life, the invalidity of the initial rumors to be proved erroneous only after his death. Just as many gossips and hearsays occur, the rumors of Y.D were a direct result of people’s interest in the information itself rather in the validity of its source, ultimately resulting in the loss of one individual’s life.
In the next occurrence, knowing the source played a large role in the life of George Morrison, a scientist who engaged himself in bomb manufacturing during the Civil War. Due to a lack of substantive data about ingredients of bombs and grenades, many scientists of Morrison’s time generally looked into record of alchemists that indicated recipes that elicited explosions. On the contrary, Morrison took notice that transcriptions of elements of the 15th century differed much from those of his contemporaries, and made much effort to rather avoid blankly following the early formulas but to continue in his own theoretical and experimental research. As a result, George Morrison was able to achieve success of coming up with the first viable formula of making a safe yet effective grenade bomb merely by being aware of the source and its reliability.
To reiterate, it is certainly crucial for people to know the source of any information before accepting it as truth. By habitually attempting to consider sources of data that people encounter in life, the society would become a better place with more truth but less lies.
