Grades and Admissions to Ivy League Colleges

I’m a freshman and I got a B in the first semester in math. Does it really affect my admission into the Ivy Leagues?

A freshman in high school?

Worrying about getting into the “Ivy Leagues” may affect your admission! Enjoy High School and do your best. But also take time to have fun and develop your interests and talents. The college thing will take care of itself.

Sweetie, it’s at least another year until you have to even be in the SAT & ACT forum, let alone the college admissions forum.

Next, I am curious as to what could possibly be your motivation to go the Ivy League as a freshman. Tell me, which school(s) of the Ivies are you interested in and why? If your answer is nothing but prestige, please rethink your priorities in life.

Also, on your transcript colleges only care about the end of year grade, the final grade after finals and midterms (if your school has them) have been factored in. So if you bring up the B to a better grade by the end of the year, you should be fine.

Please don’t obsess about colleges, especially Ivy League Colleges as a first semester freshman. It really is unproductive.

This is what you should be doing:
-Do the best you can in the most rigorous courses you can succeed in.
-Find friends you like to be with and spend time together doing things you enjoy.
-Find activities you like and are interested in (not activities chosen because they “look good for college”) and get involved.
-When the time comes (junior year) study for your standardized tests.
