I just finished my Junior year, and am looking at some good liberal arts colleges that have DIII football. Including Colby, Washington and Lee, Tufts, Trinity, Union, Ithica, Bowdoin, and Gettysburg. My High School is extremely difficult, and is considered one of the best private schools in Florida. I dont have the best grades in the world, they are as follows: 2.7 GPA in mostly difficult classes / 1820 SAT's (620 math, 590 reading, 610 writing). My question is, assuming I am a good football player wanted by these schools, how much will fooball help me in admission? How much does recruiting at the DIII level sway my mediocre grades?

I might be able to help a bit since I just graduated HS (which, btw, is not an LAC, it's the smallest research university in the country) in Florida, and am going to Tufts, so, what private school do you go to?

I go to The Benjamin School in Palm Beach Gardens FL.

i know a bunch of D3 recruited athletes at top level LAC's and if the coach wants you they will give you some leeway but its not like D1 where they'll give you a big break, I would say that if you dont fall in the lower 25% of there acceptance range then you wont get in/

Erm... it's not the best idea to post the HIGH SCHOOL you go to on here... since they're usually small enough for them to find you.

It's nice that you go to a good private school (just like everyone on this site seems to!) but a 2.7 GPA doesn't exactly scream those schools (no offense I hope!) They might give you some leeway, especially with the football thing, but I wouldn't be trying to get into one of those schools (seeing I'm not right now, and I might actually graduate in the top ten of my class!) Try and find some schools that match your interests on CollegeBoard... you can find a lot on there that don't have to do with just football... you can find some good schools, too. You might want to stay closer to home too... I don't think I could deal with being that far away from everything I know!

Good luck though. And try to improve your grades next year! =)

P.S. People have heard of Tufts in Florida? Wow! Kind of weird for me to hear, since I live less than half an hour away from it...

Tufts, W and L, and Bowdoin are WAY out of your league, even if you are one of the best fball players in the country. If they cared that much, they'd have amazing teams. It helps, but not as much as you need it to.

Yo. i go to benjamin too. Im goin to be a junior. This is Merson. IDK who wrote this post but i was thinkink of doin football next year. If i decide to, I will be back up kicker on varsity so i can get more experience for senior year (thats what coach parks said).

IDK if i am gonna do it cause i dont want to have to "juggle" all of my stuff (FBLA Pres, 5 APs, an Honors, and Spanish 5, plus my other stuff).

How demanding is football if i am just gonna place kick? Is it every day practice and do youthink football affected ure grades/gpa. I had a 3.7 and want to raise it cause i want to go to an ivy or close to ivy league school.'

Plus Isn't it funny that the second bulletin i click on happens to be a person from my school!

I figured out who this was cause i saw the post about ure bro goin to u penn. I was at the spanish review thing. howd u do on that test.

Most of the NESCAC school (Colby, Bowdoin, Amherst are looking at a minimum for SAT's above 1250 (Old SAT), top 20% of class, B+

I'm going to Washington and Lee for football and I would have to say that your grades are a bit of a reach. The coaches do have pull but not enough to make up for that sort of thing. There are some really good schools out there that are a little less selective like Centre College, University of the South, and Bridgewater that are all smaller schools have decent academics and that are D3.
