Grades at a top private high school

I go to a private day school in the North East which sends ~50% to top schools, and I'm a junior. In freshman/sophomore year, I maintained straight A's in the most challenging courseload, but now I'm not doing quite as well. This is my record:

Freshman Year:
Physics Honors – A
Algebra II Honors – A
French II Advanced – A
English IX – A
History IX – A
Latin II – A
Theatre I – A

Sophomore Year:
Chemistry Honors - A
Precalculus Honors - A
French III Advanced - A
English X - A
History X - A
Latin III - A
Theatre II - A-

But this is what I'm looking at for junior year:

AP English Literature – A
AP Calculus BC - A
AP Latin: Virgil - A
French IV Advanced – A
US History – A-
Biology Honors – A-
Theatre III (Playwriting) – A-

I'm pretty sure I'm still at the top of my class, but I'm just wondering whether this is a competitive curriculum/record coming from a private school.

Just curious.

God forbid you get A-s....

Oh yes, god forbid!

Why do you have to belittle my worry? I just want to know where I stand.

If you're getting a few A-s and you're wondering if you're good enough, I doubt your school is really a TOP private school.

No, it is. I'm not so much wondering if I'm good enough...I just don't really know for sure except for hearsay because the college admissions process hasn't really started for juniors yet. I mean, last year we had girls go to Columbia with ~3.8 GPAs. I don't know.

Do you seriously think a 3.8 is low?

I'm sorry but I kind of agree with ham.
A true top private school doesn't grant A's like that. If the school's academic standards are high enough, teachers obviously try to let out As less and less, and B+ is considered amazing and B is average.... etc.
Of course, there's always the possibility that you are an incredibly smart student in which case, if you WERE, then you wouldn't be here asking that question

I'm pretty sure I'm still at the top of my class

These two statements alone answer your own question. How can you not get into a top school when half your graduating class does? Seriously...

you took the most challenging courseload and have straight A's....i think that you might be competitive

Look, A minuses AREN'T BAD. They're pretty friggin awesome, actually, because you're taking a very rigorous course load. Admissions people look at your grades in the context of your classes, and in that department you're more than covered. If anything they'll understand your A-'s more, because an elite private school in the northeast is a heluva lot harder than most public schools, and probably even my small Southern private school.

Thanks for making me feel bad about my Bs... I'll go crawl in a corner and battle my insecurities now....

Sorry, I didnt mean to be whiny or naive or self-absorbed...I just was talking to people this morning and getting freaked out, and I've been having stress issues...I shouldn't have posted this...I'm sorry, I really felt like I had reason to worry, even if I really didn't.

People at school are making you freaked out? Do you all have As or something?

No we don't--I just freak myself out. But it was because I was talking to people about grades...if that makes sense

Take a chill pill bro. You're all good.

Haha thanks, that's just what I needed.

Yeah, chill.
Reminds me of Stuyvesant (NYC)
--excellent school...everyone is just so grade crazy ..

wow your school must be very big and challenging
mine doesn't have a strong curriculum :(

Just to chime in again- my high school is in the Ten Schools Association, and not to brag but it's like really hard as hell to get As. The average accepted student to Harvard/Yale/MIT etc. has an 88-89% average.

Point being- those are sick grades. If you go to a high ranked private high school, those are REALLY sick grades. But I don't care what your high school is, unless it's "write down your name and get an A" high school, you have good grades so don't worry. Your grades are better than mine.

ah yeah not quite that
i dont know
it's definitely not easy to get A's, but it's not so difficult as that
