What GPA average are boarding schools like Exeter, Andover, and
Groton are looking for? Is it okay if I get one of two A-'s?

yes.

I came across that Exeter document last spring. While Exeter is not on my D’s list, I found it so helpful. Wish all the schools would produce something similar.

Madaket: I agree. When my son was applying, we suspected Exeter was a good fit because my son’s strengths were reflected in those criteria. Now, after six months, I can see how they accurately they describe the kind of kid likely to do well there. It would be very helpful if all schools had similar lists–my guess is they’d share some of the criteria, but the differences would be telling.

I looked at that Exeter pdf. How would it differ from their peer schools? Seems the criteria listed could be applied to other schools.

Really good pdf… I fit every criteria but that guarantees nothing. Wish other schools would do the same (just like everyone else does!).

B+ average or above would be a good GPA to aim for. Most schools also look at other things besides grade, though- you need good grades and extracurriculars.

I feel that grades are a bit overrated here on CC. Even colleges don’t look that hard at grades because they can range so much from school to school. It’s just like class rank. In one school you might be ranked 1st and in another you might be ranked 50th. I am in a prestigious middle school magnet program and I get mostly A’s, but sometimes i do get a B. Now, if i was taking the classes my sister (who is 2 years older than me) is taking at her school I would be getting straight A’s. And she is TWO YEARS OLDER! So, while they do look at it, I wouldn’t sweat it to much.

Don’t compare yourself to people on cc because a C at like a public school could be an A at a private school. Not to diss public school. And I know it’s not that drastic but still… And the percentages are different. And people LIE! gasp cursessss.
