Graduate or Stay For Dual Major?

I'm due to graduate next May from Rutgers with a bachelors in Finance and a minor in Economics. However, I believe if I stayed one extra semester I could get a major in Economics as well.

Is it worth it to stay an extra semester to get the extra degree in Economics when you already have a Finance degree? Are they so similar that the other degree isn't much of a benefit?

What are your thoughts?

Anyone please?

A job would be better. I would concentrate on getting a job rather than stacking up on degrees.

If you have no offer now, then staying another semester is not a bad idea. I would prioritize on using your school resources during that semester to get a job rather than finishing up your extra degree.

I agree. I’m going to be applying while I’m in school. If I finish school first then so be it but I’ll try to balance both if I have to.

Does anyone have an opinion on how much better a dual major in Finance and Economics will look to employers than a major in Finance and a minor in Economics?

Having that extra few months of work experience would be a greater advantage than the dual major. Economics is not a major that will provide more long-term opportunity in addition to Finance. The only thing it might help with slightly is getting that first job - and if you can get that first job before that last extra semester, there is no point in staying to get that second major.

Go through recruitment with the mindset that you are going to graduate. If you cannot land a job, then stay in school to get the double major to “buy some time” and then go through recruitment again the following fall semester. This allows you to utilize your school’s recruitment connections as much as possible, while still adding value to your resume in both circumstances.

If you still can’t get a job after that second round through…well you are just out of luck.
