I'm wondering if anyone knows of any exceptional masters vocal pedagogy programs?

Check out ASU Herberger School of Music. Great teacher---Jerry Doan

Oh great thank you!
I was wondering what the opinion is on Shenandoah Conservatory's vocal pedagogy program?

Hmmm, I don't know many specifically for grad, but this is the few that I do know are good. Crane School of Music in SUNY potsdam, Ithaca College, New England Conservatory?(I think more vocal pedagogy rather than ed), um I think that's it for what I know. Hope it helps.

also check out wesminster choir college of Rider University in New Jersey

awesome thank you!

I suppose it would depend on your ultimate goals and the size of program you’d be comfortable with. U. Colorado at Boulder has an excellent grad vocal pedagogy program. Some of the giants like Berton Coffin and Barbara Doscher called CU home for many years. Kansas U. also has an excellent program that is, like CU, well-focused on vocal science. Westminster, East Carolina U., New England Conservatory, and U. Texas San Antonio are also good options for vocal ped.

If you don’t necessarily plan to pursue teaching, but instead might consider something along the lines of becoming a singing voice specialist in the medical profession (closely related to a subspecialty of speech pathology), the University of Iowa has a renowned program in Vocology through its Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, which offers coursework in conjunction with the School of Music. Alternatively, you can take much of the same coursework by attending the Summer Vocology Institute at the National Center for Voice & Speech in Denver. The course credit is still granted by the U. Iowa.

Ohio State also has a Vocal Ped program that works in conjunction with its Speech & Hearing Science department. That might be worth a look, too.

Look at North Texas State University…Steve Austin is there and is reknown as a pedagogy teacher.

I believe that a friend of mine completed the graduate program at UNC Greensboro in vocal perf. and ped. and loved it.

Eastern Carolina Univ. has an excellent program.

NEC is known for having a very good program. Crane has a good program too, but I think theirs is more education-based.

Hi all. I’m adding to this discussion—4 years later. I’m looking for an exceptional program in vocal pedagogy that doesn’t have too much emphasis on performance and has a relationship with a medical center. I live in NYC, but none of the programs here come highly recommended. I’ve heard great things about Boston Conservatory’s program as well as NEC. I’d originally thought of pursuing a warmer climate, say California, but I haven’t found much. I’d also consider studying overseas in the UK if anyone knows of a program.

Thanks for the help!

Ohio State, if Scott McCoy is still on faculty there.
