It's not shamefull not to go to Harvard. You have a very good shot at transferring to a very good school.

Admissions committees should be very impressed by what the OP has done with his life. Serving in the Army still commands respect, and I bet those adcoms don't see many stories like this.

I worked with a guy who went straight from HS into the Navy and then they recruited him for officers' training. He went to a great college and graduated as an engineer. He's terrific, very organized, very smart, very together. I was really impressed by what the armed forces were turning out.

OP, have you considered calling the schools you're interested in and talking to them about the best way to apply?

Good luck!

I think that (like most people in this thread), considering your SAT score, if you worked hard and made good grades at a CC, or any other decent college you could get into, you'd have a great shot at a lot of places.

Try Oxford College of Emory University. After two years, you transfer into the main university and graduate on time.

Why not try a mid-ranked college that you can get into (apply to several, cuz results are unpredictable) and get high grades. Then you can move up for junior year or grad school.

I don't get how you got ranked last in a class of 360, even with having to help your disabled mother, yet still managed a 2330. Did you just not show up at school or something?

I don't know. I just always had it, can't explain it. It wasn't that I didn't show up, I had to work. My job took a huge amount of my time, as an Assistant Manager at Taco Bell. On weekdays I got off at 2am, made it home by 3, and the bell rung at 8. Time was always of the essence, I had to test out of all of those courses in 2 days. Call it pure luck or whatever, I have always done very well on tests, and I've never lost that.

u guys are f*ucking kidding me. Nothing is impossible. No dream, very sad.

im gonna go with OJ on this...and i actually wanted to add something that no1 has mentioned yet.

Thank you for serving our county. its a tough thing to do when you choose to leave behind your mother in the situation you describe and your dreams of attending harvard. i admire that and feel that any college admissions board would too. I feel that you deserve to reach every single dream you have and i think you will soon enough. You are a hard worker and you know what you want...take a few years at a CC, kick butt, go onto Harvard. But i would highly encourage you to apply to some universities now anyway, whats the worst that could happen? You get rejected and try again after a go at CC.

Our country needs more people like yourself. Good luck in everything you do with your life.

You guys are very rude! My parents are both college admission officers and think completely opposite of what you guys have been saying! The one thing that might hold you back is your age. Haravrd (or any college) isnt thrilled on accepting students who are 'older'. Becasue of your family situation I believe your SAT alone shows that you are extremely bright! And to who ever said that getting 2330 when your 24 isnt that hard! Try it! Unless you got that score when you were in high school you probably wont get it! Unless you went to college. This guy has a high school diploma! He didnt recieve any extra education than the average junior or senior taking the test. So why in the world would his SAT scores be looked down upon!?!?!?!? Dude, getting into Harvard isnt easy so you most likely will have a VERY hard time but I think your chances are decently high. My parents (who are admission officers at two prestigious university) said they would most likely wait-list you but it would all depend on the incoming applicants who are more qualified. A two year college would be a great start! Just to show colleges you have the brains for college material! Good luck!

Not the nice people WHO POSTED above me but the people who left rude comments are RUDE!!!!!!!!!!

UR RITE MITCHELL, ALL ADMISSION OFFICERS SHARE THE SAME COLLECTIVE BRAIN, IF UR PARENTS ARE BOTH ADMISSION FOFICERS AND SAY HE WILL BE WAITLISTED, THAT IS WHAT MUST HAPPEN11!!!oneoneoneone

Thanks for the morning laugh though.

Thanks, guys. Waitlisted, huh? Yep...going the CC route seems very real to me now. If I had scored 1800 it would be easier to accept, you know.

edit: I didnt see the third page when I posted, so this is no longer relevant.

You don't need to go to community college. Plenty of colleges will accept you. Don't listen to anyone here; they're just too protective of their Ivy League spot and wouldn't want people "taking away" their acceptances. Apply to Harvard. Your story is unique enough that you just might get in.

anonymous271828, of course he'll "apply" to Harvard. We never said "dont" apply, and we know what we're talking about. So please shut up n00b.

wooa, i told him to apply...lets all remember this lol

Yea anonymous I'm so worried about him stealing my acceptance from Harvard now that I'm a rising soph in college.

We are just preparing him for a rejection IF it comes. We're not gonna sugarcoat it and say "yea u'll get in 100%" and then laugh at him later. Definitely apply but expect both of the possible results.

Thanks, you know what? I think I will just for fun, the worst they can do is say no. I'm writing my personal statement right now anyway, and I don't think that my mother will LIKE it at all!!!! Still, I'm really just shooting to get into a feeder or CC.

listen, if you want something bad enough, you can ALWAYS get it.

end of story...you can go anywhere you want if you put your mind to it...forget what these people say.
