Chances at top tier schools (Please bear with me)

<p>I posted this info on the Columbia forum as well -- hope I don't sound too redundant.</p>

<p>Here goes:</p>

<p>Asian male
I attend a military school and am a senior.</p>

<p>-3.9 GPA unweighted 4.2 weighted
-Weighted class rank: 2 out of 54
-SAT I - CR: 750; Math: 620; Writing 620 (I'm planning on retaking in December)
-SAT II - U.S. History: 730; Literature 710
-AP U.S. History: 3
-Currently taking AP English
(My school only offers two AP classes)
-Taking hardest courses in school</p>

<p>-Varsity Football (2 years)
a) Co-Captain
b) Hudson Valley All League Pick
c) All-State Scholar Athlete Award
(I am not getting recruited by any Ivy League schools. I may try to play as a walk on, but it's a far shot -- I'm way too small for my position)
-Varsity Track (3 years)
-Varsity Wrestling (1 year) </p>

<p>-President of National Honor Society
-Academic Team
-JROTC (I'm a cadet Major and the second highest ranking officer in my school)
-210 hours of community service abroad (Thailand, Mongolia, Japan, and Korea)
-Presidential Volunteer Service Award
-Leo Club
-Dad went to Columbia College and got his MBA at Harvard (pretty crazy :P)</p>

<p>Great teacher recs.</p>

<p>Hook: Service Activities abroad and Military School</p>

<p>Schools I'm applying to:</p>

<p>HYP
Columbia
Cornell
Georgetown
Duke</p>

<p>Think I have a shot?</p>

<p>No one is going to be able to tell you what your legacy will be worth at Columbia.</p>

<p>The odds for ANY HYP applicant are between 1 out of 11 and 1 out 9, and that includes all the legacies, developmental admits, URMs, recruited athletes, sons and daughters of Senators and Congressman and ambassadors, holders of patents, published novelists, and Olympic tiddlywinks champions. So if you were their average applicant, you could reduce the 1 out of 11 Xamount; but your scores indicate you are well less than the average applicant. Odds at the other places are somewhat better, just as a matter of numbers.</p>

<p>From what I can tell, you are not applying to a single school where your stats are at or exceed the 75th percentile of those accepted. So where is your safety - and do you love it?</p>

<p>"Olympic tiddlywinks champions"</p>

<p>The way "tiddlywinks" sounded when I spoke it alloud sounded so funny.</p>

<p>Might want to add some schools like Bucknell or Holy Cross-step below Ivies but very good academic schools.</p>
