I was a very strong student in high school, and I got accepted to many fantastic colleges. However, I had a really bad first year out of high school due to depression and anorexia. I took 4 classes at a community college this fall. I got one A, two Bs in classes that should've been easy As, and here's the biggie- I failed one of them because I didn't drop the class right. I want to get my act together and go to college next fall, but will any school accept me now that I've failed a community college course? I'm considering lying that I took this year off and just applying with my high school info...

Lying will get you nowhere…can’t pretend like your mistakes didn’t happen.

All of this is recorded so… you can’t.
However, go see your community college and see if the issue (not dropped right) can be fixed; if not, try to take the class again and get a better grade.
Are you trying to transfer for Fall 2014?
What state are you in?
I hope you’re seeing a therapist and are getting help for your eating disorders.

Thanks for your advice. I’m super bummed that I can’t just hide that from them, but thanks for your suggestions. I’ll try to contact the school. And yes, I am hoping to go Fall 2014. I’m in Pennsylvania (Penn State is the school I’d like to go to). And yes, I am currently getting help for my eating disorder.

If you’re a PA resident, you have several choices:
- Penn State UP (doesn’t seem likely but you can always try)
- Penn State branch campus (not sure whether it’d be possible administratively but if it’s possible, then you have a shot; you’d have to transfer again to UP after next year but admission to UP is guaranteeed if you meet a GPA threshold.)
- Pitt
- Pitt Branch campus (pretty sure)
- PASSHE (Slippery Rock, West Chester, etc.)

Depending on how much financial aid you need/how much your family can pay, you can also look into some private colleges - I know that Washington&Jefferson, near Pittsburgh, had miscalculated yield so they have a few spots open.

You can also stay at the community college for one more year, perhaps taking classes year-round to bring your GPA up as for now it’s not that good but it sounds like you’re able to do better, “make up” that F, and apply next year with a high GPA to one of the many colleges that would be interested in a 3.5+ transfer student with lots of good credits. This option would give you a lot more choices and a lot stronger colleges.

Congratulations on getting help for your disorder. It must have been very hard to take that first step and you must be in a very difficult place even now. Stay strong. :)

There are many good options in Pennsylvania. PSU is a reach. Try Robert Morris, Point State Park, Duquense, many more. About 6-7 in Pittsburgh
