Hi! I'm thinking about graduating high school early but I wanted to get some input before making any final decisions. Currently, I am a sophomore with a 4.3 GPA. By the time that I graduate, I will have the following high school credits:
-5 credits in math (Algebra 1 honors, Algebra 2 honors, geometry honors, Pre-Calculus, and AP Stat)
-4 Social Studies Credits (Econ&Government honors, World History Honors, AP Human Geography, and AP US History)
-4 Science Credits (Biology Honors, Chemistry Honors, AP Biology, and the Academy of Biotechnology)
-4 English Credits (English 1 honors, English 2 honors, AP English Language, AP English Literature)
-5 Foreign Language Credits (Spanish 1-4 and AP Spanish Language)
-1 PE credit
-1 fine arts credit
-1 credit from the Biotechnology Academy

I am also a member of the Book Club, Young Democrats Club, and the National Honors Society. I am also considering joining the Hispanic Honors Society next year. I am also on the track team and will have over 300 service hours by the time I graduate.

Do you think this is enough to get into good colleges (examples: FSU, University of Berkeley, University of Irvine)? And do you think graduating high school a year early will not negatively affect my chances of being accepted into one of the Universities that are listed above? Thank you for your opinions!

Umm, that seems like over achieving, actually. I know kids from my high school who have gotten into very highly esteemed schools with much smaller resumes.

They don’t frown on it directly as far as I know, but IMO graduating early can hurt your applications indirectly because you lose a year that you could have used to develop your extracurriculars and essays and relationships with teachers. If you graduated early and went to community college, you would be a transfer student when you applied to the university, and that would lower your admissions chances.
You can attend a community college or university without graduating early…this is called dual enrollment and I think it’s a better option if it’s possible for you. There’s really no good reason to graduate early, especially since you haven’t even taken calculus or physics.

(Also, “4.3 GPA” doesn’t mean anything without knowing the scale.)

Trust me, you don’t want to graduate early. I have the same choice to graduate early but it’s not worth it. Just take your time through HS and enjoy it. You won’t get that experience in college.

Same deal here. If I graduate early, I’ll have up to AP Calc 3, AP Stats, AP Gov, AP Econ, AP Psych, AP Lit/ Lang, AP Physics, AP Chem, AP Organic Chem, AP Biology etc at the end of junior year.(probably a lower gpa though since I didn’t try too hard freshman year) I decided that I’ll just stay in school for another year and get 120ish college credits total. I think that’s what you should do to be honest, just get smarter for free while you can.
