I’m currently in 11th grade and all through highschool I took extra courses but didn’t start taking Honors courses until second semester of 10th grade. Right now I’m taking two AP courses and as many Honors courses as I can. I need 24 credits to graduate and at the end of this school year I will have 25.5 credit, but I’ll still need 1 English credit. My current GPA and class rank is 4.392 (on the 4.875 scale) and 32/462, respectively. I’ve been involved in clubs and have a lot of volunteer hours. My school offers the following AP classes: AP Lang (currently taking), AP Lit, AP Calculus, AP Psych (currently taking), AP Macro, AP Mirco, AP Bio, AP Statistics, and AP Art History. My family’s income isn’t great but I’m definitely willing to get a job if I can’t get scholarships. I’ve always been interested in Forensic Science and Directing so I’ll probably go into one of those fields. Listed below I have some questions that I would really like some input on from someone other than my counselor. I hope this was enough info!
Will taking honors courses so late hurt me on college applications?
What would my chances be of getting a lot of scholarships?
Chances of Ivy League?
I realize that graduating early is like anything else, it depends on the person but either way-staying in HS or going to college-will work for me. So, what is your opinion on me adding another English course to grad. this May? Or should I take some AP courses?
Will graduating early even matter if I'm most likely going to transfer from Tech to Uni?
What's my GPA and class rank like compared to others?
Is there a reason why you waited to take honors courses? I’m not familiar with the 4.875 GPA scale so I can’t speak on that, but your class rank is good. You’re definitely in the top 10% of your class. If I were you, I would stay in high school and take more classes. I could’ve graduated early, but I decided to stay and now I mostly take Dual Enrollment courses. If you plan on going to a tech school first, graduating early doesn’t really matter. In terms of scholarships, it depends on where you want to go to college. There are a lot of in-state scholarships. If you plan on going out of state, stay for your senior year. It gives you more time to look for scholarships. Also graduating early can make the scholarship process for some very complicated. As a current senior, my opinion is that you shouldn’t graduate early. It’s crazy how fast this year is going. You don’t want to rush your way to college. Enjoy your time in high school and build up your resume. Continue taking AP courses and being involved because it will lead to a stronger application if you do decide to go straight to a university.
@QMusic yeah, I really didn’t take school seriously in Middle School and didn’t think I was ready in 9th grade, that was my get-yourself-together year. In first sem. of 10th I had a lot going on so I waited till 2nd–I honestly wished I did it sooner though.
@coffeecrazy00 I feel that way about extracurriculars. Freshman year at my old school I only did band. Now I’m involved in and have leadership roles in everything at my current school. I’m like the poster child, I get asked to do a lot. Better late than never I suppose.
I’m worried about my extracurriculars too, I feel like they’re going to be the same as everybody else’s. I do online school so finding leadership roles is extremely hard, I didn’t get in to the NHS because of that. Your extracurriculars sound great though!
