Graduating early

Got a question for you folks, I'm a high school senior who's going to graduate in December ( school allows us to graduate early if we have 24 credits in highschool ), but I'm hearing now that if I graduate early I wont be getting any Financial aid, which I really need. Is this true?

No. I graduated in January, 6 months early, and received plenty of aid. The schools didn’t even know I was graduating early, because I did early action.

based on my senior year of HS, i would HIGHLY RECCOMEND that you not graduate early. the second half of senior year was the best time of my life because your responsibilities are so few. take an elective or two of something youre interested in and get a job to start making some pocket money for college but dont miss out on the experience of the end of HS

When you say graduating early, do you mean JUST graduating early or also starting college in the spring? Because I’ve heard some people say they got less aid when they started between semesters, but it shouldn’t affect you at all to just graduate early. [Though I do agree with brown14.]

Well, second semester senior year is fun, if you’re into the hs thing. I was so over the petty drama. I had plenty of friends, but graduating early gave me a nice break from a 730-3 day of meaningless academics. I was able to work FT and save money for college, I was able to do whatever I wanted to do, and I could still do any of the cliche HS things- prom, graduation etc. HS is so overrated. When you get to college you will have that “I valued those friendships” moments and just kind of laugh about how stupid HS is.

I’d be going straight to college after I graduate early.

And I really don’t care for highschool, if I stay this whole year I’m going to be doing mostly AP class’s.

i would also stay in hs for AP classes…a bunch of my friends got exempt from 1 year of classes by getting out of freshman requirements with enough AP credits

seriously, what do you accomplish by going a semester earlier…besides it will be awkward cuz everyone at your college will know each other and you’ll be the new guy

think about it man, just be mainstream and wait till next fall and go with peers your age

The sooner the HS graduation, the sooner the college graduation, and the sooner the college graduation, the more money you will get from the college diploma…in this case half the annual salary you would receive.

Brown14 did not take this into consideration unless he thinks an ‘experience’ is worth $25K or so, which is absurd.

I met the majority of my friends 2nd semester. There is recruitment and rush during the spring at many schools, going Greek is a great way to meet people. If you’re tired of hs, get out. College is a lot better. Or just take a semester off of school and work. that money will come in handy for books and social things.

I would disagree; the money that can be made at a job - if one can find one - out of high school is not as much as one would make after college in the same time period. Better to be austere now and frivolous later.
