Is this possible? For what it's worth, I anticipate 5-6 AP/IB credit grants, summer school abroad (in the UK, where I live) and I already know what I want to major in. I'd be more than willing to take on an extra course every semester to save 50K.

Yes. It can be done. Information we received from the university on this subject:

“There is a residency requirement at Tufts. Students must be enrolled for 8 semesters at Tufts or in abroad programs. Students may petition out of this residency requirement with a combination of A.P. credits and Tufts summer session credits. Five A.P./summer session credits count for one semester; nine A.P. summer session credits count for one year.”

So at this point, if you come to Tufts with 5 or 6 credits, you could graduate a semester early. I am not sure if AP and IB are treated the same. I believe there may also be a rule on how many courses one is allowed to take for credit per semester (??). You would need to check on that.

Also, I don’t know what kind of credit they will give you for taking summer courses in the UK. I think the course (s) would have to be approved by the Academic Review Board at the school. It also may depend on if the course is to fulfill a distribution requirement or a major requirement.

Is it possible to graduate from Tufts in 3 years if I plan to do a double major or is it just impossible to complete all the credit requirements for a double major in 3 years? I plan on doing International Relations and Economics.

If you come in with enough AP credits and stay for a summer session or two, then it’s probably possible, but it would limit your other opportunities such as participating in extra curriculars and taking classes outside of those majors, which are also important parts of a college experience.

Hmm, so I guess it IS possible. And yea, that’s something that will be hard on me, hebrewhammer, but I’m not sure if those extra electives are worth 50 grand.

As for a double major, I’m asking this question, and even I can safely say that that’s sadly not possible :(

I would still have a bit of a problem. I plan to major in IR (like 50% of all students apparently haha) but they have a NASTY 8-semester language requirement. Would it still be possible?

Does anyone know what kind of credit you can get for the full IB diploma? DS was also accepted to UC Berkeley, for example, where he would enter as a sophomore because of having the IB Diploma. He also, has 5 or 6 AP exams on top of that.

You don’t need any language APs to graduate a year early. Only 3 language classes are required, which translates into 1.5 years. 3 culture classes are also required, but could be taken simultaneously.

Yea, I think I’ll be very grateful for the requirement even though it’ll be a pain-in-the-ass at times. Not sure if I would have the discipline to take advanced courses at other schools where they’re not required.

But crap, I won’t be able to do it this summer. Both Arabic 1 and French 1 (haven’t decided which language) are during the 1st session which starts May 20th. My grad is on June 13th :S Oh well, maybe I’ll take advanced classes next summer.
