How are most students looking for Jobs? I work at a great company, and recently graduated. We’re not Facebook, Amazon, or Google, but we have a ton of roles. What are students looking for in roles. What do parents want for their kids in these roles?
Most (but not all) of the most desirable graduating seniors going straight into industry will focus on getting full-time offers during fall recruiting. Many of these top candidates already have offers from internships they completed during the summer and will have accepted them or will be “shopping” around for other offers.
I cannot speak for everyone, but what here is what I look for in a role (as do many of my friends) in rough order of importance:
-
Opportunities the role and company provide for fast + significant career and personal growth (developing valuable skillsets, promotion opportunities, encouraging and paying for graduate school/additional training/conferences).
-
Competitive Salary + Benefits (everyone says they are competitive, but are they really?). I sometimes wonder if recruiters honestly think we do not talk to our friends vying for or working in similar roles about their salary. A lot of us know when are are being lowballed. Let’s also not forget how easy it is to use increasingly accurate salary tools.
-
Company culture - some of this transcends into point #1, but it is more than that. How does the culture of the firm match with my values? Is Diversity + Inclusion important? Does the company make the world a better place?
-
Location - is it a desirable area to work (“hot” areas seem to be New York, LA, Bay Area, Boston, Chicago, Seattle, Austin, D.C.).
I am a graduating senior with an offer to return with the company I interned for. I am “shopping” around right now, but may well return to the company as I think it hits a lot of those things I am looking for.
I guess I wonder…what exactly are you asking @Qualtrics
Does this relate to you or one of your kids…or are you just curious what everyone else is doing?
