Graduation Present

One of my friends will be attending the Naval Academy next year, and I am lost as to what to give her as a graduation present. I want to give her something that will be useful to her at the academy, but I am unsure of what will be allowed.

Am I correct that most presents for typical dorms (bulletin boards, posters, bedding, etc.) would not be allowed? In addition, clothing, jewelry, etc. are also not acceptable?

What kind of gifts would you recommend to give to my friend?

I appreciate any input!

Cash, gift certificates to national fast food chains, a gift certificate to Dahlgren hall's food concession, a phone card so that the room phone can be used for long distance calls (instead of a cell phone; the room phone has better reception) a phone that can be used in the room (there is service, but the occupants must provide their own phone) an iron and small ironing board.

A care package during the year filled with home-made goodies is always appreciated.

Get her a good pair of sneakers.

don't you get issued sneakers?

Yes, but you can also bring you own sneakers as long as it is mostly white.

Excellent suggestion.
