Hi,
My son is graduating this spring and I am curious to hear from other parents of alumni. Does anyone have suggestions about managing the graduation weekend? Any things not to miss or to avoid?

Thanks for the help. I also posted this on the Parent's Forum page since I am not sure which is most appropriate for this question.

Hi!
I’m very interested in hearing any suggestions as well. I have twins who are graduating delaware in may, looks like both of them are graduating at different times in smaller ceremonies on friday and then general commencement the next day. are there assigned seats for any of the ceremonies? how early do you need to be at the Bob for the general commencement? any helpful hints would be greatly appreciated!

Hopefully you have already made hotel arrangements. IMHO attending the Convocation Ceremonies, depending on a students major/college/Honors Program, is probably a little nicer than the full Commencement ceremony held on Saturday at the football stadium (seats 20,000). The events are first-come, first-served with no assigned seats (although I can’t speak for every single Convocation Ceremony). On Saturday you have to park at the stadium so the traffic is like attending a football game (if you ever went to one). I would recommend getting to the stadium by 8:15 am so you can park and get into the stadium (again no assigned seats). The Commencement on Saturday is held outdoors rain or shine, so be forewarned. I would also recommend making dining reservations ASAP. Overall we found the weekend to be very impressive and rewarding but we felt somewhat bittersweet when we had to leave to come home. It was like we were leaving a life connection we had grown very accustomed to and enjoyed over the previous 4 years. Good luck. Have a great graduation.

I can’t believe the four years are about over Great thanks to Mwallenmd for all the guidance since before my DD was even accepted. We have hotel and dinner reservations for graduation weekend. Just a few more logistics to work out.

Thanks for your kind comments. Our D (UD 2010 BSN) will be graduating in May from UMiami with her MSN as a Family Nurse Practitioner. Time sure does fly by. We have had to address the same issues down there. Congrats to your D on her graduation. I hope your son is doing well at UMiami. Take care. Have a great graduation.
