I found a grammar error on the additional information section of my common app after submission. I wrote "was" but it's supposed to be the plural form "were". I only wrote two sentences in that section so I guess the admissons officers can easily see that mistake.
Will this mistake affect my chances?

Oh, man, I’m sorry dude. You see, Harvard adcoms… well, they don’t like errors. Especially grammatical errors. I mean, they read about 28,000 applications, most of which have perfect mechanics, syntax, prose, grammar, diction, imagery, everything! Then they see something like, “We was the presidents of the chopstick making club” and they stop, glance slowly back at the subject, then move carefully to the verb, and die a little inside. They don’t agree. Oh dear god, they don’t agree. I’m not sure if you understand the gravity of the situation here. The subject and the verb Do. Not. Agree. You see what I’m saying? You see how awkward that is? How difficultly jarring to read? But, alas, it’s January 2nd and there is absolutely nothing you can do. My sincere apologies about your luck here, but I do hope you warm up to Yale in the next few months.

Thanks Wedgedawg… you made me calm down.

No need to freak out. The occasional grammatical mistake is acceptable.

???

hahaha. dude, you made the same error I did on a previous application. fortunately, i made an alternate version for harvard. but it’s still funny!

^Which school did you send your previous application to? Has the decision come out?

LOL. For the most part I’d say grammatical errors are less obvious than spelling errors.

You aren’t getting in, end of discussion. Close this useless thread.

satsat23, it was a really tough school to get into any way. i got rejected, but i’m 99% sure it wasn’t because of my error.

Well, its a turn-off though, you won’t be denied admission only because of that.

You have no chance now. Go cry in the bathroom.

lol, i love the sarcasm that verges near ■■■■■■■■ in this room :P

My DD had a typo in her application, and she is currently a senior at H. Don’t sweat it!

Here’s a dumb question: So what do this ‘DS’ and ‘DD’ stuff mean?

Dumb Son, Dumb Daughter? I thought one D was enough for a daughter.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I had always assumed that it was ‘Darling Son’ and ‘Darling Daughter’…
ha.

GreenWithIvy, you are correct.

^Thanks. I was just wondering.
