^ For math it can be helpful.

Although I personally did not think his book offered anything new, I was able to return it and get my money back under his "48-hour guarantee" by filing a ticket to 2co.com (his credit card gateway; he never responded to any emails).

Just to let you guys know, it has been noted that this Mike Barrett person may have people on the site to promote his product...

alright, guys, i am not in doubt of the effectiveness of the book, at least for low scorer (i.e. 1500-1800). but one thing i am worried about is that something probably happened to his company and made him unable to give any new product anymore....#_#
i am just guessing.............~~~

Wait besides many people recommending the book, didn't Xiggi also recommend this book. I heard a lot of people people say that Xiggi gives the best tips. The following thread gives a more depth discussion about the grammatix book.
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=53348
and one more thing, is it impossible to download the grammatix e-book. Which website are all you guys ordering the grammatix book? I know like 3 websites where I can order the Grammatix book. When you tell me the website you ordered the grammatix book, can you guys please tell if you had any trouble downloading the e-book. I want to ordert the book but am afraid, since I read the company is not functioning and I will have trouble downloading the book.

im reading that topic, but 45 pages ...

darn..

xiggi is not always right. He does have some good ideas, but he has some bad ones as well. One of them is do not study vocabulary. For a good score, test takers must know certain words. It is impossible to score over 750 with the average vocabulary. Grammatix is also somewhat of a hoax. It says somewhere in grammatix that just casually reading grammatix a few times for a few hours will get you results. yeah right. grammatix strategies are junk too. Not Joe Bloggs junk (a pr strategy : basically think what CB is trying to trick the average student into choosing and choose something else), but it is quite similar. Do not get it. I borrowed grammatix from a friend and looked it over. It is a pdf and it was pretty substandard stuff. Best use the 60 dollars for a nice dinner.

Actually, I agree with xiggi on that point. I think trying to memorize lists of vocabulary words is a waste of time and counterproductive. Read a lot, and look up unfamiliar words (my motto in life: when in doubt, consult Webster). I read everything I can get my hands on, and I consistently scored an 800 verbal (it was the math I had to practice for  ).

Hey, I'm definitely not one of those Mike Barrett promoters...
I use grammatix and let's just say it's definitely improved my CR. I suck at CR.

Math is still kind of shaky with grammatix, but I'd figure I'd just read concepts and understand why I got it wrong.

How much has it improved dude?

my jan06 score for CR was a 630 looking to increase 100 points

well...i definitely dont agree with Xiggi's idea of not remembering vocabs..after spending about 3 months memorizing vocabs, i can get 99 percent of sentence completition questions right..
anyway, memorizing words is definitely gonna help you in college when you face more high-level reading (i am a junior, but i have taken some college courses already, including english as well)

I did not memorize any words at all, and I usually get all the Sentence Completions except the last one

ROOTS PEOPLE LOOK AT THE ROOTS

It's not great for math but I think it is pretty good for CR and writing. It really helped me on the CR. I improved from a 690 sophomore SAT to a 75 junior PSAT. I am on block schedule and did NOT have an english class between those two tests. I was already really good at the writing (790) before grammatix, but the tools and strategies looked solid.

i agree with exrunner. the CR is very logical and super good. yet i dont really know how much it has raised my score...i will tell you asap as i take a practice CR

the math is decent, basic concepts. i suck at math anyways

oh..and i have no logic whatsoever.

it was alright on math (vocab included for math), great for CR and grammar but crap for the essay portion

Where did you all buy it from, im a poor HS kid trying to buy this with what little money I have, and I will hunt down the guy who made it if he steals my money or doesnt give me it

(based on the problems that others have been having in other threads regarding Grammatix)

Ordered the grammatix ebook plus hard copy on a Saturday; got the ebook right away, never got the hard copy. Book had some good tips, and was pretty well written. However, he never replied to any emails I sent; his claims to be available to personally help any student is not likely true either - every time I called his number, I got a "sorry, voice mailbox is full" message. It's been over two weeks. However, the third party credit card company will protect you - they gave me credit!

are the tips helpful at all?

i'd say some are new and useful, some are ones we've all heard before. i'll see if i can get some examples.
