Grand Valley State University

what are everyone's opinions on this school? I want to major in computer engineering or comp sci. The other main schools that I am looking at are Marquette and Dayton.

thanks for the help

its a really good school that is starting to take students away from michigan state. its becoming more competitive every year. the campus is really nice, very pretty and a lot of new, updated stuff. the dorms are also really good. they actually just built new honors dorms, and the old honors dorms, which are extremely nice, are going to be used for freshman. im not sure what their computer science program is like, but my mom teaches there, so i can probably figure it out.

This school has grown a lot and is really putting itself on the map in Michigan. It's had growth in enrollment and a big growth in applications--at least from what we're seeing over here at U-M. It's also got extraordinarily good sports teams (I think it won the directors cup in its division this year, or darn close). I don't know much about it otherwise. Another bonus--regular train service from Grand Rapids to Chicago.

Honestly, I would go to GVSU over any public school in Michigan other than UM or MSU, and there are many kids who are choosing GVSU over MSU. It is in a sprawling, growing city, has good academics, is growing in reputation, has a fantastic football team, a nice campus that's in a good city (the same cannot be said for nearly every other school in Michigan). Great connections to employers in Detroit, GR, and now Chicago area.

any other comments?

From all accounts I have heard, it is almost the preferred state school for those not interested in UM. GV is much preferred by some over MSU, just because it is in a safer area.

I'd call it an "up-and-comer" state u.

Good luck!

best looking campus in michigan, but the academics are poor.
If you are not a UMICH caliber student then its the best public choice in michigan.

It's actually a great school. They just raised their minimum GPA, i think it might be actually higher or just as high as MSU now. They're also growing. I live right around their campus, so I can tell you the area is beautiful. It's been said around here that they could actually qualify to be a D1 school, but don't want to, probably because that would hurt their football program.
I would actually consider applying there if it weren't so close to home.
