I have received a generous merit scholarship from one school, while another school has offered me a generous grant. If the amounts are similar, is there a difference in their value?

Probably not but you need to check into the conditions on both. For instance, many merit scholarships require you to keep a certain GPA to continue to receive the funds. Are both the grant and the merit scholarship for all four years?

The merit scholarship does require a certain GPA, but is renewable for all 4 years. The grant is something that I will need to reapply for each year with financial aid. However, the school has said the grants typically stay the same for all four years, unless my financial status changes. I just don’t know what the better option is, since they both add up to similar amounts. Thank you!

There is not enough of a difference to base a school decision on. Go to the school where you think you fit in better if all else is equal.
