Grants? OOS Pitt and Penn State COA

My son (Out of State) just heard from Pitt/CBA that he was awarded a small ($2,500) grant as part of his financial package. Small but very much appreciated! He had not previously been notified by Pitt of any type of scholarship. He was also accepted to Penn State/Smeal but has not received any financial info - I guess it will be posted later this month in elion. My question is whether Penn State also awards these types of grants? Or would applicants have already been notified?

Also, in pricing out Penn State v. Pitt based on OOS rates it seems as though Pitt is a couple of thousand dollars more due to housing and meal plan costs (for similar level plans). Is that what most people have found?

My son favors Penn State v. Pitt, especially for business, but money is a factor. I know time will soon tell but I'm just curious...

Thanks

People should also take a close look at the difference in tuition among various colleges/programs within Pitt and Penn State. It can be a $4,000 a year difference at Pitt, for example.

Assume for now that there will be no aid forthcoming from Penn State. They only meet about 50 to 55% of need - and that includes federal and state grants and federal loans and work study. In other words, there is very little aid provided directly by Penn State, other than the merit money through the Honors College and athletic scholarships.

My d received a 1500 Dean’s Freshman Scholarship from her specific college - Earth and Mineral Sciences. You might be eligible for that. This was at Penn State

My son recieved a $2000 Trustee (I think) Scholarship from Penn State. We were surprised by this, thrilled but surprised.
