Hi all =),
I am going to go to Keene State College, possibly for a double major in Graphic Design and Business - Management. I am very passionate about Graphic Design, I have a full 20 piece portfolio of pretty good work, right out of high school. I got into KSC's art program, so I am definately going to do a GD major, either BA, or BFA. Is it a good idea to double major with a Business - Management degree? I feel like I could do very well in Business because I am a social person and like to solve problems, also I have done some work with my dad who is a manager of Caterpillar Equipment, so it was legit work, and I liked it.
Is GD a good major for any sort of money?
I have done 2 GD internships, and basically have been offered a job out of college starting at about 35K per year. However, I want a little more than this, I feel like a business degree in Management would be a very good fallback if I was struggling getting by with my GD degree. Will people please give me some input, maybe what they did with their business degrees and if you ever thought about GD.
It is very much appreciated! Thank you for your time!

Unfortunately, no. An additional business management major added to your degree would not give you any noticeable advantage over just a BA/BFA in Graphic Design. All you would be doing is incurring more debt and increasing your graduation time, when you could be graduating in a shorter time to get more job experience sooner. If you are worried about job security, the only worthwhile majors to add to your degree are:

Engineering (any of them - Industrial, Computer, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical)
Computer Science
Information Technology/Computer Information Systems
Accounting (Business)
Finance (Business)
Supply Chain/Operations/Logistics (Business)
Management Information Systems (Business)
Nursing

A very heavily quantitatively-focused Economics/Statistics combination might also work. If you are worried about Graphic Design job security/money, then you are going to have to come up with a good backup career before you decide on your backup major (because the whole point of that backup major will be to lead to the desired backup career).

So are you saying that I should just forget about GD and go into one of your suggested fields? Also, if I am attending a low-tier college (Keene State) and I did Management, or Nursing, would I be at a huge disadvantage?..I really enjoy GD, kinda sucks that I have to think about just forgetting about that if I am worried about money. How can I incorporate two majors, one of your reccomendations, and GD? ****.
