Graphic Design Schools

Hi all,

I'm currently finishing my junior year in high school, and the college search is already becoming quite a big thing for me. I'm currently looking for a school in the Midwest or on the East Coast (near Virginia area) to provide me with a reputable BA in the field of Graphic Design (or Visual Communication). The information I'm seeking is tough to find, so I figured I'd just come to a nice forum and ask! I live in Illinois and would prefer something in-state, but I'm open to recommendations outside it of course. Public or private doesn't matter. Tuition is a big deal, and would affect my decision heavily. Campus life is not nearly as important to me as academic reputation of the school program itself. I already have a few colleges in mind, but would like to see what recommendations you might have. :)

Which colleges will offer me a program in which I'll both be challenged in and will offer a great chance of immediate entry into the workforce upon graduation?

How do colleges that require a portfolio from incoming freshmen judge the student's work for admission?

Financial aid is important to me, I'd rather not spend years and years in debt. How do I take advantage of the most benefit I can?

Which colleges are my best choices for design firm internships?

Thanks!
Sean

Bumping this up, still looking for suggestions!

This may just be me, but I don’t usually see many people in gfx design on CC so you may not get a response :(.

philadelphia university comes to mind

Iowa State University…BFA in Graphic Design from their College of Design. College of Design at ISU has solid programs across the board although they do have competitive admissions for the BFA program. You take a common design core as a frosh and then apply to the graphic design program. OOS cost for room/board/tuition/fees is about $28,000 per year. Many OOS students get an automatic merit award of $6500 often making ISU cheaper than instate options.
