so are there any public college that have solid program in graphic design? because money is really a big concern.
I heard someone mentioned Arizona State, but what else? thanks

It’s not a public college, but Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida has been ranked as one of “America’s Best College Buys” for the past 10 years. At a cost of $19,330 for room, tuition, board AND fees, it is one of the most affordable, independent, four-year colleges in the nation. I think tuition alone is about $14,000. “U.S. News & World Report” and The Princeton Review also regularly feature Flagler as a college that offers quality education at a relatively low cost.

It also has a very very good graphic design program. Last Spring, Flagler students took the top 7 of 10 spots in the Southeast AIGA Portfolio Competition. Other schools in attendance were SCAD and Ringling.

Look at SUNY Purchase and SUNY New Paltz

I was going to suggest SUNY New Paltz too. My son is a graphic design major there. If I can answer any questions about the school, feel free to ask.

Are you instate / in NYC five borough?
Kingsborough community college near coney Island is the destination for strapped deprived un-degital artists who need to do something about that whole business at the same time you get to know today’s ghetto youth with true street style that now admired through world wide.

family member of a friend in Tucson native went U of A there for graphic design but run out of course to take pretty soon. Its reputation was a lip service and some class was so bad there was a students uprising, teacher gotten kicked out.
The kid was buying his time because still bit short to transfer soundly credit wise, last time I heard he was looking into SCAD, AAU (non CC people don’t know a thing) I gave the CC link. I don’t know what happened afterward.
I think, “Good art dept.” is as much of mixed bag in region, personal issue, parents and advice givers knowledge of the specific field from the certain era ( pre Mac, post Mac, anti Mac?)
Design in commercial sense at least has some leveling field, but put this in fine arts, conceptual one, fashion (i. e. anything goes) you really don’t know how and what to compare.
I often wonder that, say, how many RISD gate keeping parents are in the field of Academia rather than arts, lawyers, CPAs and engineers opposed to artists or wanted/ wannabees.
How many of same are at SAIC, Art Center, etc.
Of course kids should have the say where they apply or attend, but parents have power to shift that big time.
It would be an interesting study to be done.
Sorry, off topic.
