GRE requirement for biology grad school

of general GRE scores)

That's from the UCLA neuroscience program.

In general, do you guys know if biology programs usually accept the MCAT over GRE?

The GRE is almost always the preferred test.

The phrase "if necessary" suggests that this is case at UCLA. Of course you will be carefully checking the requirements of the programs to which you are applying and discussing them with your professors right?

In the second-hand experience of having a lot of friends who applied to biology PhD programs, most bio programs do not take the MCAT. MD/PhD programs might be an exception, I'm not sure.

If it were me I would invest in taking the GRE, even if MCAT scores are acceptable. You want to appear as if you know for sure that research and academia are your future - the MCAT makes it look like you're wavering, and grad schools might therefore think you have a high probability of dropping out. Like jessiehl said, MD/PhD programs are probably an exception.
