GRE: Theoretically if you missed all of the math questions

Not saying I would. I am just trying to understand the scoring. So if I missed all of the math questions, I would still have a 130? Or am I completely confused on how this works. I need a 290 to get into the MAT (teaching) program. Assuming I did great on the verbal, and really poorly on the math, is that score still possible? They only look at the combined score. Thank you for any information.

@amywah True, since GRE verbal/math scores range from 130-170 inclusive, but 130 is a terrible score. Even if you guessed at all the questions, you’re bound to get at least a few right.

Looking at it the other way, scoring a 160 on verbal guarantees you a 290, and a 160 is pretty doable. I only got 156 on verbal, but my major is mathematics, so the math section was much easier for me.

Thank you for clarifying. I will use a GRE study guide, but I will not stress myself out quite so much about math. Thank you again.

Yeah no problem. Good luck!
