Wondering if anyone could provide any insight between taking the GRE or LSAT. I am fairly certain that I should be able to perform much stronger in the GRE, but am wary that law schools will still prefer LSAT > GRE. I am planning to apply this admission cycle but currently having some trouble increasing my LSAT score to be within the 167-170 range. With increasing time constraints, I was thinking maybe it made sense to shift from LSAT to GRE but am aware that are still a few months to keep prepping.
I would really appreciate any insight between GRE vs LSAT. I am also aware that only a handful of schools accept the GRE, so in the case I take the GRE, I would only be applying to those schools.
Thanks in advance.
Unfortunately, GRE admission is so new that there isn’t any data yet reflecting a preference between GRE and LSAT. Since schools don’t have to report GREs but do have to report LSATs, my guess is that if you have a high GPA, you’re better off with the GRE. A lower GPA, the LSAT is your friend. GPA is measured against the school’s median.
Do not take both. If you have an LSAT score you will have to report it. You can’t choose which one to send.
Thanks so much for the advice. My GPA is definitely not in the high range (~3.6) but I do have a double major with one being STEM (engineering). Based on your advice, I guess that LSAT would make the most sense for my situation.
Another reason I had considered the GRE was that I’ve heard a couple times the introduction of the GRE to law admissions also had to do with attracting more stem majors, but I do understand your point of being a splitter and LSAT being more preferable in that case.
Take it with a grain of salt–it’s just a guess. Accepting the GRE to get STEM people in doesn’t make sense though. STEM people usually do better on the LSAT than on GPA anyways.
