From the Burlington Free Press...

Remember Division III includes many much larger schools like Chicago, NYU, WUSTL, JHU, etc.

I thought the piece was wonderful.and I have a real respect for Missy Foote. Mostly, I like how they give the money to the student’s use instead of cushy offices and views for themselves. HOWEVER… as a parent who has been sacrificing for the welfare and benefit of my children for a long time, sometimes I wonder if we don’t give the kids all too much. Yes, I am paying handsomely for all the good facilities etc, but at the same time, my kid has some serious expectations about what’s “normal” and “expected” and I think that’s because it has become part of our culture that parents give way more to their kids than their parents ever gave them, right down to the ride to the soccer field!

I think the entire piece was awesome and the largest takeaway was it’s not really all about winning, but the bonus is that when you set the right attitude, you win anyway! Love it.

Excellent point Moda. I often feel the same way I return to campus. Unfortunately, that’s one result of the competition to attract the best students to elite colleges. I know I’m old when I find myself saying, “back in my day. ”

Well Urban I am sure you are younger than me! My husband and I went to a really cool little place known for its “antiques” - imagine my surprise when it had a ton of stuff we thought was “only yesterday!” Seriously, talk about feeling suddenly ancient!
