Great English Colleges?

I've searched all over the world wide web and can't find anything that has a list of the colleges that are considered "best" in English/Writing. The college I want to go to is ASU (Arizona State University) and it seems like I've heard it's one of the good English colleges, but I'm open to any college in any state, just as long as it's got great English!

Thanks!

Kenyon's program is very well known.

Cornell is top 10 in that department.

Along with Kenyon, the following all have exemplary writing programs: Washington College (Md.), John's Hopkins, Trinity (Ct.), Iowa

Middlebury, Amherst, Denison, Kenyon.

Yale, I think has the strongest graduate program in the country (if you submit to US News rankings, and I dont blame you if you don't). As far as undergrad is concerned, Princeton, Columbia, and Harvard also have amazing programs. You should also concider LACs like Williams, Middlebury, Amherst, and Swarthmore, which also have phenomenal programs.

The University of Virgina has an excellent English program (one of the very best, IMO). Duke also has a fairly good English program, although it's not quite as good as it used to be.

Also consider: Vassar, Barnard, Bard, Skidmore, Smith, Davidson, Kenyon, Carleton, Scripps, Pomona, UW Madison, Oberlin, Middlebury, Knox, U Chicago.

UVA (university of Virginia) has an excellent, excellent, excellent English department. I'd say it's in Top 3 if not the best.

PS UVa's "creative writing" program is also one of the best the nation

UC-Berkeley certainly used to be the top graduate program in English, and is still superb. Also University of Pennsylvania and, a notch down but very good for undergrad, Vanderbilt.

I'm deciding b/w wm and uva and i'm going to major in english and hopefully write in the future. How good is wm english?

Yale Yale Yale.

Yaaaaale!! Berkeley for value.

And quality. :)
