I have a 4.1 weighted GPA, and a 3.6 unweighted GPA with a bunch of extracurriculars and leadership positions at my school. But, my SAT scores were low (500 M, 440 CR, 560 W) is that going to have a major effect on my acceptance to colleges like Virginia Tech, University of Florida and other schools? I know SAT scores may not be everything, but they’re the major weak point in my applications and Im just nervous.
Is there a question you are asking or just sharing your nervousness? I doubt you are getting into Uf without playing sports or the such as your gpa is low for there and sat is over 200 points too low for average data. Make sure you have some safeties that guarantee you admission.
There is an entire set of schools that doesn’t look at test scores. http://www.fairtest.org/university/optional
For other schools look up the Common Data Set for each and read section C. It shows how much weight scores get and the stats on admitted students. Make sure whatever you target as a safety is also affordable for your family.
How can you explain your high GPA and low SAT? You obviously test well with your high GPA.
Your SAT is way too low for UF. I doubt VT will look very favorably on a 500 score in the math section.
Can you retake the SAT after some appropriate test preparation? Why not try the ACT? Perhaps that test will be a better fit for you.
Thank you for your feedback! And I took the ACT, but scored lower than that. Reviewing math that I took in 7th and 8th grade was kind of hard to reteach myself for the tests, but I did try my best. And I can’t retake them…it’s too late

Same boat as me when I applied in November. Had a 3.79 unweighted and an act score of 21. I only have one acceptance so far. But after scoring horrible on the Act I’m still challenging myself taking rigorous classes like AP calc and AP physics. So most colleges will see that I’m not giving up after a horrible test score.
Omg Im like the same way! I’ve gotten into 3 so far. Deferred from 2 and rejected from 1. Still waiting to hear from 2 of my other colleges

500M is too low for VTech. Overall GAP X SAT combination is too low for UF. Hopefully both were your reches, and you have matches and safeties?
