Great Ivy SAT Score?

Hey guys. So i have qa question. I have taken the SATs twice. I just got my second round back today and it’s 2300. The first time was 2200.

But the 2300, while making me euphoric, left me slightly worried after a while. My breakdown is 800,800,700. The 700 is for CR.

Should I retake? :frowning: I hope to apply to Columbia, U Penn, and maybe one HYP if I’m daring enough

What did you get on CR the first time? How much prep did you do for each sitting?

Well… the standard prep I guess? Looked through 3-4 papers and studied the high frequency word list. Sigh. The previous time I got 710. So my superscore is 2310.

If you are a junior now, I don’t think there would be any harm in taking it one more time at the beginning of senior year. You could do a bit more prep, some sample tests and a review book, perhaps. But that’s a pretty good superscore already.

Well I’m not sure if I’d be considered a senior or junior. I’ll be entering college next August. So I guess a Junior? (I’m an international student). Anyway thanks a lot. I’ll see if time permits to retake SATs

I have a friend who got into Harvard and MIT this year with a 2000. And one who got into MIT with an 1850.

@light10491 hope you dont mind me asking but do your friends have great ECs or are they URMs or anything?

light10491

that’s great they got in with 2000. i can manage that score…and i would love to apply and go to harvard…

what were those kids exxtra cirrucs?

just like zman5 asked

dere’s so many ppl I know that have actually got into ivy leagues and other top colleges with a score around 1900’s…I have a friend who got into MIT last year with 1710!..I have friends from my year who got into Brown, Upenn, columbia and Harvard with scores around 1900 and even less this year…I got into Yale and Stanford with just 1970!..so I think SAT’s are actually not the best indicator of the possibility of admission into good colleges, at least for international students…its better to try your level best in the first go and then don’t bother about sitting for it again and rather spend that time to polish other aspects of your application, specially the essays!

would two 800s and a (totally embarassed to say this) 640 ruin your chances at an Ivy? I know obviously the 800s are good but the 640 is SO low…

imo, 2350ish looks the best b/c it really close to perfect but proves that you still make mistakes and probably don’t waste your life studying SATs. but…i’m not the one to ask

10mwil: I am assuming that your 640 is in Math. If you have a strong passion in the humanities (assuming 800CR/800W) and this shows in your application, I wouldn’t be too worried.

Just wondering… do ivies prefer it when you take the SAT multiple times, and show improvement?

Or do they prefer when you take it once and do well?

I was one of those people: my first test was stressful for me and I most likely let the anxiety hurt my score. I got a 2040. Second test (a few months later), I got a 2260.
