GREAT Lecture by J. Carville and Newt Gingrich

YouTube - Pt 1 - Carville & Gingrich Teach at Tulane

It's an hour long, but if you're remotely interested in economics or politics it's definitely worth the watch. This is from James Carville's Elections 2008 class, by the way.

I sat in on that lecture.

Carville’s an interesting guy. But some of his students make him go into “Avada Kedavra!” mode… He looks like Voldemort.

Thanks for posting that. My son is considering Tulane. It’s nice to read about things like that. Gives us a little better feel for what’s happening there.

BTW, kansasdemocrat and TrojanTransfer?, can either of you tell me about the political climate on campus. Especially, is it a place where different political points of view are respected?

Those two will give you the “on-the-ground” view, but I can tell you from watching the Gingrich lecture on You Tube that there is apparently a 23-17 ratio of Democrats to Republicans in that class (kind of shocking for a college campus) and there is a regular column in the student newspaper espousing a conservative point of view. My impression is that intelligent opinions from all angles are respected.

College Democrats have like 500+ “members” but isn’t extremely active outside of their meetings (that’s not to say they’re not involved, but more people just identify with their party). College Republicans seem a little more “secretive” and have less than two hundred.

You should also note that because of the Jewish population, Israel is a great thing.

Asians are by far the most “ethnic” group as far as “multicultural” events.

Lots of community service advocates and activists.

TrojanTransfer? you mention that you sat in on that class. Do you think it would be a good idea for my son to try to do that when we visit?

Thanks for the info.

You should note that the class is only on Tuesdays from 6-8:30, but feel free if you can.

Thanks, that would be tight, but we may give it a shot.
