Can anyone give insight into the Great Problem Seminar for my soon to be freshman daughter? If you chose to do GPS, did you feel it was worthwhile?
I’m a WPI Alum ('12). Some of my friends did the Great Problems Seminar. It fits well into the WPI theme of using engineering to solve important social problems, but I don’t think they found it particularly worthwhile.
I am not sure how much time they spent on these projects, but it might be a good way to get to know students from other majors (although there are other opportunities for this as well, such as the IQP). On the other hand, the course credits and time might be better spent taking more math, science, and engineering courses that are more relevant to a student’s major.
