Are there any alternatives to the traditonal sororities? The sisterhood and having many social events structured for me really attract me to sororities, but in my case I think I would feel too much social pressure (I don't mean to offend anyone, just my own feelings) Is there some alternative that offers these things as well, but more relaxed? And with fun people...

With such a big school its pretty easy to find something you'd be interested in.

If you're not interested in doing the typical Greek social sorority thing, you could try joining a professional sorority (pre-Law, pre-Business, pre-Med, music, etc). They typically have events that would be intellectually interesting, as well as the social and philanthropic events that a normal sorority would have. Most typically don't have a house that you live in, but are more like a club.

Other than that, most other clubs will have also have social events. And there's nothing to stop you from organizing your own events with friends!

If you are in engineering, there is a social sorority just for engineering girls.

Phi Sigma Rho ~ University of Michigan

It's great because you build relationships and have social events just like the traditional sororities, but rush is very low key and there is much less time commitment.
