Greek Life, male/female ratio

H and I are both alums. Son is just starting to get interested in the search process, and is curious about Lehigh. Would appreciate input from current students or parents on a couple questions--

First - it looks like somewhere around 35% of the students are involved in greek life. When we were there a million years ago, social life revolved almost completely around the hill and frats. At the time, there was the unfortunate impression that male students who were not in fraternities were 'out of the loop' socially. Would you say this is still the case? It sounds like the school has made a lot of effort to offer social and residential alternatives over the years, so am hoping this has changed.

Second- after checking out the website, I was suprised to see that the male:female ratio is still somewhat lopsided (like it was in the old days). Is this a drag for the guys, or not much of an issue?
Thanks

1) No. Definitely there is a sense of a split, as most greeks end up socializing with other greeks. During freshmen year, the hill will be a large part of the social life. If you join a house, it will continue to be so during your entire Lehigh career. if you do not join a house, that is completely fine. This greek/non-greek thing is a total non-issue.

2) The male:ratio improved for the class of 2010 (55:45), then became totally lopsided again for the class of 2011. very unpredictable. i personally do not feel i am affected by this lopsided gender ratio - i have many male and female friends.

thanks, cclu
