Greek Life + Minerva Life

Do any Union Students or Union Parents check this board? Is it possible to be an active member of a sorority as well as an active member of a Minerva house, or do you have to make a choice? I think each student is affiliated with a Minerva beginning freshman year, but does one forfeit that connection if one joins a sorority?

Hi cat, I am a Mom with a freshman D at UC. Yes, you will be told of your Minerva affiliation when you get your initial freshman dorm asssignment. The administration's stated intention is for the Greeks and Minervas to compliment one another on campus. Both can offer social experiences/benefits & support/living spaces/etc. You are not forced to give up one for the other, in fact I know that there are Greek members who serve on their Minerva boards. However, students do seem to me to prefer/utilize one over the other (if they prefer to be active in either!) for various reasons. I'd say to take advantage of EVERYTHING that appeals to you...the options are many!
Congrats on getting accepted, for TOO MANY reasons my D absolutely LOVES being at Union!

BTW Cat, I saw your post re: Bowdoin... an awesome school, congratulations again! My d's best friend also choose Bowdoin rather than UC '09 BUT she was TORN between the 2 up to the very LAST minute...as she had fallen pretty hard for Union and had been offered the Scholar program/etc.
For those interested... my d's dorm (Richmond) has also been a HUGH source of her social life this first year, and she has been extremely happy there!

thank you for the congrats! i'm so glad your daughter is happy at union, my friend will probably be attending in the fall. i emailed her your response to my question about the minerva/sororities because she wondered about it as well.
