I’ve read some reviews on Kentucky and they said Greek life is an important aspect of being apart of UK. Is this true? I don’t know if a sorority is really for me, but I’m definitely willing to try it out if it is that important to the campus! Also, what is Greek life like at UK? And which sorority is the best?
My daughter is a freshman at UK this year. She is not a member of the Greek community. It did not interest her at all. She is having a wonderful experience at UK, and does not feel like she is missing anything not being in a sorority.
With that being said, if you are at all interested in being in a sorority, there is a special rush week right before school opens in the Fall. It would be a great way to check it out, without needing to commit. It did not seem expensive to stay in the dorms and participate in activities. It would give a person an early opportunity to get themselves situated. There were clothing needs, etc. for that week, so if you are not at all interested, it would not be worth your time to do this just to get on campus early.
Another way to get to know people is to be in a Living Learning Program. It is not as time consuming nor expensive. As the LLPs are designed to have a group of people with a common interest living in the same hall, taking a class together, and having social activities that can be done as a group, it is something to consider. My daughter did not do this, but does live in a dorm where many students are in that LLP.
I can’t help you with specifics about sororities. UK does not appear to be nearly as intense about Greek life as a school like Alabama is.
