Grinnell College No-Loan Policy

hi. this is an email we just received.

“In response to the financial hardship that many families are experiencing because of the pandemic, Grinnell College announces today that we will eliminate student loans in financial aid packages and replace them with scholarships. This no-loan initiative endorsed by Grinnell College’s Board of Trustees will be effective fall 2021 for all new and continuing students eligible for need-based financial aid and is intended to lower the debt burden on our students. The Office of Financial Aid will continue to offer loan options to families who wish to borrow as part of their college financing plan.”

if grinnell’s not on your radar, then it probably should be now, lmao.

I have been a fan for a while and now more so with this announcement.

Wow, they are going to get bombarded. Seems like it might be a ploy to raise their standing. Offer great FA for a couple of years then admission rate goes down and they appear more competitive and kind in the process. Great for kids planning to apply.

@Happytimes2001 it’s actually a policy our student union brought forth to the administration and demanded it be put into effect! of course, the administration and board of trustees had to approve it, but our student union is really amazing.

@kalons Wow, that’s great. Will definitely help Grinnell raise its ranking inadvertently. Win-win.

Does this include the unsubsidized loans they offer to students?
