I got three of it and asked FedEx about it. They told me it was spam.
I got waitlisted… And this is my this is the third time I’m being waitlisted. So anxiety-provoking. :-S
@Smythe - The financial aid that’s offered to you as merit in lieu of need-based will be there for you regardless of how your family’s income changes (assuming you keep up the grades of course). If your parent gets a better paying job or even a slight increase in income during the next few years, you could lose your need-based eligibility but you’ll still have the merit.
Congratulations on the scholarship and acceptance!
Accepted…international student here…
$34k need based grant. Chem major
Wanted to know how good the major in Chem/Comp.Science is in Grinnell…and its comparison to other schools like Cornell/CMU/Reed/Vanderbilt(haven’t got a decision yet though)
Accepted! 3.7 GPA and 31 ACT… I didn’t even write the optional “why Grinnell” essay but they accepted me, are offering 60K in scholarship, and paying for a plane ticket so I can fly out there in April to visit. I think it’s largely b/c I had STELLAR recommendations and great EC being the cofounder of my (Rural Tennessee) GSA. Sorry to everyone who got rejected or even waitlisted. I feel for you guys!
@uumans How do you know about the plane ticket? Because I can’t afford to come visit and I wrote them an email Saturday but no response yet (understandable as it’s barely Monday morning though)
Accepted!!
We are signed up to bring our D for accepted students days 4/10 and 4/11. Can’t wait to see the campus and people!
@erroneous45 It was mentioned in my acceptance letter and again in my acceptance packet I got today. They also mentioned that they didn’t do this for every admitted student, though. Just keep asking, I suppose. If they aren’t replying, call them.
I recall seeing in prior years’ posts that merit aid increases as tuition does, but I see no mention of that in documents from Grinnell. Anyone know if this is the case? Not something I would expect, but would be great if so!
@shialabeouf yes I did apply for financial aid, about $ 30k. Read the other RD thread for more info.
@TrishaAgarwal Thanks!
My son receives a merit award (he is a junior now). The amount has not increased. It remains the same. It might be different for financial aid. I am not sure about that.
@twodogsnight Merit aid does not increase with tuition.
@uumans I am impressed with your rural Tennessee GSA and I’m glad that Grinnell is accepting cool people! Congrats! Also, If you’re interested you should get a Grinnell student to show you around the Stonewall Resource Center (SRC), which is our LGBTQIA+ student center.
@lexluthor5 Yes, the grants that Grinnell gives out are need-based and not repayable.Otherwise, Grinnell will label them “loans.”
I am an international student and I’ve received a pretty decent aid package, but to actually go to Grinnell, I require a greater amount of aid. My younger sibling will be going to college next year and non of the documents submitted factor in the additional expenses that will be incurred once he is in college.
My offer letter stated that my offer is non negotiable.
Coming to my questions:
Are financial aid packages negotiable? If they are, then I have the following questions:
i) Can my aid package be reviewed and increased next year once my brother is in college?
ii) Or should I try contacting the financial aid office and asking them to increase my aid package this year itself because my family will incur additional expenses in the future to pay for my brothers education?
Thank you guys so much!
Financial aid is determined year to year. You would need to adjust your numbers next year.
Accepted but no merit aid despite high GPA & good SAT. Already visited and loved it but now trying to figure out if cost is worth it. Also accepted with a fabulous merit package from Kalamazoo and interesting that on Parchments comparison site, Kalamazoo is chosen over Grinnell by 56 to 44%. Wondering if anyone else has chosen one over the other in a similar situation and why? Is is just the cost?
@Choices2020 what are your stats? Did you write the optional essay?
Yes on the “optional” essay. 4.0/IB Diploma/2020 SAT.
@Choices2020 The 4.0 is nice but 2020 doesn’t help much. 75th percentile is 1500 (CR+M).
