Grinnell?

Hi All,

I was wondering if I could get some advice, maybe from student and/or parents who have been or have kids who have been accepted to CMC. Better yet, a college admissions counselor! (I wish [: )With my profile, I was wondering if I stand a decent chance in getting admitted to Grinnell. Any comments or advice is greatly appreciated!

-Did high school choir for three years. In the top choir for two years. Choir is well known for taking home many superior (first place awards) awards. Nationally recognized program.

Essays:
-Personal Statement: Good
-Grinnell Supplements: Good
(note: not to sound snobby in any ways but I'm positive they're good because my sister and I spent countless hours on them. and i feel like i did a pretty good job on them. and she's an extremely good writer)

Other interesting factors:
-Spent a few years while I was in elementary school overseas
-Self taught guitar and ukulele player. ( I tried to emphasize this point in my application, mainly just my passion for music)

So with all this, do you think I stand a shot at getting into CMC? Also on a side note, does anyone know if an interview with Grinnell will really help? I know it's past the deadline but I'm thinking about asking them anyways.

I’m confused. Do you want to go to Grinnell or CMC? My son was accepted to both Grinnell and Pomona. Didn’t apply to CMC. He chose to attend Grinnell. It’s a great school. His SAT sere: 760, 790, 790, GPA 3.988. Great essay, recs and ECs. Do you mean you would visit Grinnell for an interview?

apparently i accidentally wrong cmc for one of them. i was probably editing my cmc one while posting this. lol. thanks for the advice. and i would ask for an alumni interview. however, i don’t know if i’ll be able to get one.
congratulations to your son! both great schools.

It can’t hurt to ask for an interview, but if you get one, prepare for it. Read enough about the school that you can give reasons you want to attend and articulate what you could offer the campus community as a Grinnell student. I think you are “in the ball park” for acceptance, but only the admissions committee can really tell you. I hope you also are applying to some “safer” schools. My son by no means considered Grinnell a “safety school” and I don’t think it is for anyone.
